Black History Month
Black History Month
Black History Month, also known as African-American History Month is an annual observance in the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom as a remembrance of individuals and events of importance in the African diaspora. The celebration is held annually in the United States and Canada in February and in the United Kingdom in October.
In 1926 historian Carter G. Woodson and the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History announced the second week of February to be “Negro History Week.” This week was selected since it coincides with the birthday of Abraham Lincoln on February 12th and of Frederick Douglass on February 14th, both of which were celebrated together by Black communities since the late 19th century.
Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
Diverse is Who We Are
Diversity is an integral part of who we are and how we operate. Our employees reflect the rich diversity of central and Southern California, and we play an active role within the diverse communities around us. At SCE, we believe diversity is about capitalizing on the strengths of everyone, empowering people, and promoting the human spirit.
Cultural Awareness & Outreach
Our Business Resource Groups (BRGs) are employee-led, voluntary organizations that represent a range of cultures, traditions, ethnicities, sexual orientation, genders and generations that help promote cultural awareness and diversity in the workplace. BRGs offer opportunities for employees to build relationships, learn from others’ experiences and reach out in the diverse communities where our employees live and work.
